“Electrical terminal block” sounds a little confusing, but it’s really nothing fancy. Think of them as tiny assistants that help facilitate and secure wiring connections. Terminal blocks act like puzzle pieces – they can connect two or more wires together and they can take them apart all without having to twist, tape or (gasp!) solder the wires. It’s then easier to make electronics circuits for fun projects, such as constructing a toy car or building a flashlight.
Safety first when using an electrical terminal block. Before hooking up any wires make sure the power is turned off to prevent mishaps. Then gently remove the plastic cover from the tips of the wires by wire stripper. Then, insert the exposed wire ends into the holes in the terminal block and screw the screws to secure them down. Be sure the wires are tied off firmly before turning power back on.
Making sure your connections are secure in a project is always important, and terminal blocks make it easy. If screws are not fastened, they can come loose and make trouble. This could cause your project not to work, or worse, create a hazard. If you use terminal blocks and take the right steps, you can help avoid these problems and keep your projects secure.
When you choose a terminal block for your project, consider the kind of wire you will have and calculate how much electricity the circuit it carries will go through the terminal block. Terminal blocks are available in a wide range of sizes and shapes, so you will want to select the one that best suits your application. If your project is small and uses thin wires, a smaller terminal block should be sufficient. But if you have a larger project that requires thicker wires, you’re going to need a larger terminal block that can accommodate them.
Occasionally things even go wrong when you are careful with waterproof electrical boxs. If you find that a connection is loose or that a wire isn’t working correctly, don’t panic! Just verify that the wires are nice and tight in the terminal block and that the power is turned off and you should be good to go. If the problem continues you may have to replace the terminal block in order to keep your project on the rails.
